LGBTQ+ Pride Month
While you’re putting together your tables for LGBTQ+ Pride Month, there are some titles I like that I hope you’ll consider.
Abrams’ THE STONEWALL RIOTS; COMING OUT IN THE STREETS (ISBN 9781419737206) is published to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the historic riots in New York’s Greenwich Village. In this book aimed at young adults, the author describes the history leading up to the riots, the riots themselves and their aftermath. It includes interviews with witnesses and is lavishly illustrated with photographs, newspaper clippings and objects from the period. Find out more from the Abrams website.
Finally, Quarto/Wide Eye’s QUEER HEROES: 52 LGBTQ HEROES FROM PAST AND PRESENT (ISBN 9781786034762) is a great collection celebrating the achievements of LGBTQ people from ancient times through today. Covering artists, writers, athletes, innovators, and activists, it’s a must-have title for any pride table this season. Find out more from the Quarto website.
These are a few frontlist titles I’ve looked at and liked a lot. Many of our publishers have great titles that are good for Pride Month. Contact your C&H rep to place your orders for Pride titles!
Front Table Picks
I love OLD DOGS WISDOM (ISBN 9781922256867) from iPG/New Holland. Although photographer Fiona Tomlinson always featured dogs in her professional photographs, it wasn’t until her beloved dog got sick at age 14 that she realized she didn’t have a great photograph of him. Thus began her journey to capture him and a lot of old dogs. It’s a beautiful collection of photos. Remember, if you order 3+ copies of any frontlist title from iPG, you’ll get an extra 3% on that title. Find out more about OLD DOGS WISDOM from the iPG website.
Another fave is from ARTBOOK/dap–JEAN PHILLIPE DELHOMME: ARTISTS’ INSTAGRAMS(ISBN 9781947359048). In a 5×7 format–perfect for a front table!–the French illustrator, painter and writer’s sharp witted illustrations depict the “never seen Instagrams of the great artists.” He imagines what they would have posted had Instagram existed in their day. From Joseph Beuys to Andy Warhol, the book is one of the first to show the platform’s influence on our visual culture. Find out more from the ARTBOOK/dap website.
In case you haven’t heard, CALL ME ZEBRA (ISBN 9780544944602) from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has won the PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction. HMH recently announced that they have signed her new novel AREZU, which will be published in 2021. Find out more about CALL ME ZEBRA from the HMH website.
